Cub Scout Training
Being a Cub Scout leader is both rewarding and FUN! Blackland Prairie is committed to helping YOU have the tools you need to deliver a great program. And that's what our training program is all about. Every young person in the Scouting program needs and deserves a leader who understands the aims of the program and knows how to deliver the program with enthusiasm and fun – basically, every Scout deserves a trained leader. Leaders that understand their role have a positive influence on the lives of the young boys in the program. Scouts with trained leaders enjoy the program more and stay in it longer. As of June 2008, this training has been updated with new requirements and Blackland Prairie has adopted all the new coursework and syllabuses.
After you've completed the basic training for your position, there are additional training opportunities such as BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation), OWL (Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders), and Wood Badge. Check our calendar for upcoming training events. If you have questions about the Cub Scout Training Program, contact

Cub Scout Leader Pow Wow / University of Scouting is an annual get-together of Cub Scout leaders from an entire council or district. The Pow Wow is a "convention" for pack leaders and all leaders should attend this learning extravaganza. There are sections on games, crafts, skits and puppets, ceremonies, administration, and the Webelos den. It's a time for parents and all experienced, new, and prospective leaders to share ideas and see what the other packs are doing.
Cub Scout Leader Roundtable is a supplemental training for volunteers at the pack level and they are held monthly on a district basis. The objective of roundtables is to give these Cub Scout Leaders program ideas; information on policy, events, and training opportunities; and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Cub Scouting leaders.
